[00:00:00] Hello and welcome back to Sharing the Good News. I want to talk today a little bit about the prophet that we get when we follow the ways of Christ.
[00:00:11] And I want to start off by reading a scripture where Paul, as he is writing to Timothy, and he says in First Timothy, chapter four, I'm going to read verse eight. He says, exercise profit little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
[00:00:40] Now, if you step back and you think about what he just said there. He said, godliness, okay? To be like God, to take on the attributes and the qualities of God, is profitable in everything.
[00:00:53] Every area of your life is going to increase if you take on the things that God tells us. And so what Christ did is Christ came and he brought the truth.
[00:01:06] And the truth is going to be things that also define the character of God, because God is true. His Word is true.
[00:01:16] So what Christ did is Christ revealed these moral truths that should guide our lives and show us what is right, what is wrong, and a lot more than that too, because he goes beyond that by also offering forgiveness and salvation and things that can only be found in Christ. And where a lot of people go wrong is they go on these journeys to try to get help to change themselves.
[00:01:47] But there's only so much you could do on your own. You need help.
[00:01:52] Nobody can do what needs to be done in the heart and the soul and the mind without the help of Christ.
[00:01:59] So Christ brought this message, right?
[00:02:04] And he says that to be like, God is going to help you in every area of your life.
[00:02:10] Think about right now in your life.
[00:02:13] What are there, what areas are there in your life that you are really struggling in?
[00:02:19] You're like, you know what? If that. If I could get help in this area, how different would my life be?
[00:02:26] Maybe it's.
[00:02:27] Maybe it's just you're lazy.
[00:02:30] Maybe you have all these plans, all these ideas, but then you never do it right?
[00:02:36] Maybe you're depressed.
[00:02:39] You don't know why you. You feel so much anxiety inside. You're always down. You always feel hopeless. You're always just struggling to have drive.
[00:02:50] Maybe it's in your marriage. Maybe your marriage is failing.
[00:02:54] You and your spouse can't figure out how to work through problems. You can't figure out how to get along.
[00:03:01] Your whole life is about to collapse. Maybe it already has, right? Maybe. Maybe you guys are divorced or you're on the brink of divorce and it's like that's not the outcome that you wanted, but here you are because you. And you don't know what to do about it. And you've tried whatever you've tried, but it's not working, right?
[00:03:18] Maybe it's with your children.
[00:03:20] Maybe you're trying to figure out how. How do I get my children to listen to me? Why are my children so unhappy? Why is there so much strife? Why? Why? Why are they always angry? You know, why? Why can't we have some kind of peace and order in this home? Godliness, he says, right here, is profitable to all things. Everything, Even. Even your job.
[00:03:39] You know, maybe you're not being successful at your job, and it's like my boss isn't happy with me. You know, what is it? What. What am I lacking? What's going wrong?
[00:03:47] Following the ways of Christ is actually going to help you in every single area of your life. There is no area of your life that will not be touched by the gospel of Jesus Christ.
[00:03:58] So as Paul was writing to Timothy, he was encouraging him and reminding him of the value of the Word of God. Okay, so as we begin this podcast and as we begin to go in and dive into these truths, what you're going to find is that Christ, he brings truth, and then he also reveals error, because you can't have one without the other.
[00:04:27] As you start to reveal what is true, what you're also going to be revealing is what is not true. Right? You have to, because the truth and error on opposite sides of things.
[00:04:38] And I want to read to you this scripture, because one of the things that Paul told Timothy in this, in second Timothy is he told Timothy something he said in verse 16 of 2 Timothy 3, 16, he said, all scripture is given by the inspiration of God. Right? All the things that we have contained here in the Word of God has been inspired. God has been behind it. He is. He has told these men, he has worked with these men, inspired them, so they would know what to write down. So all of these things have been inspired by God, he says, and they are profitable for these things, for doctrine.
[00:05:16] Doctrine is teachings. What is the right thing to teach? Right? We live in a world where right and wrong seems to be a moving target. Right?
[00:05:27] You know, it's always changing, but truth is unchanging. Truth is true.
[00:05:33] 2,000 years ago and 2,000 years from now, it's true. It doesn't matter what society you're in, what culture you grow up in, if it's true, it's true. That's one of the beauty of Something like basic mathematics, right? It's like, you don't go to another country and it's like, oh, I got to relearn math all over again. Right? It's like two plus two doesn't equal four anymore. No.
[00:05:54] If it's true, it doesn't matter what language you speak. It doesn't matter where you grew up. It's true. So he says the doctrine is profitable, or the scriptures are profitable for doctrine, for what we teach as truth. Okay.
[00:06:09] It is also going to be profitable for reproof and for correction.
[00:06:15] It's going to show you where you're wrong, and it's going to help you to be made right. It says it's also going to show you how to be righteous. Okay?
[00:06:24] I like that. Because I don't want to just know where I'm wrong.
[00:06:29] I want to know how to be right.
[00:06:31] And that's what I love about the Scriptures, is that it's not a negative thing to be shown where you're wrong.
[00:06:36] That's beautiful. It's beautiful that I could be shown where I'm wrong, but it's not a bad thing, because there's hope, there's answers, there's things that can be done. I hope in this podcast you see many areas that you are wrong in. I hope that because every time you see an area that you're wrong in, you know what that means. You can be right.
[00:06:58] And what that also means that your life has been affected by the wrong things that you're doing. And so everything that you learn about yourself that you're doing wrong is an opportunity for growth.
[00:07:10] It's like, imagine if you're investing your money and somebody comes along, is like, hey, you've been dumping all of your money into this one stock, but this stock is plummeting. It's been unprofitable for 20 years, right?
[00:07:24] You need to stop investing in this stock here. Let me tell you, invest in these stocks over here.
[00:07:30] Why would you be mad about that? Why would you turn around and it's like, how dare you tell me how to make more money? I mean, that's crazy, right?
[00:07:38] So the same thing is true spiritually. It's good to be to be wrong, because that means you could be right.
[00:07:45] So God says, the scriptures are going to show you where you're wrong. They are definitely going to show you where you're wrong, but they're not going to stop there. They're also going to show you how to be right.
[00:07:55] And he says why? In verse 17, he says that the man of God may be perfect and thoroughly furnished, equipped to do all good works.
[00:08:04] So God has a plan.
[00:08:06] And his plan, which is found within his words, is a life changing plan.
[00:08:13] And as we delve into these things, I want you to know that you will profit. Your life will profit.
[00:08:22] You will profit in spiritual things, you will gain peace, you will gain joy, you will gain understanding, you will, your relationships will improve, your mental health will improve. Okay?
